The Art Project has been ‘homeless’ for quite a while, but now with the opening of the new Adult Learning Centre, we have just moved into our “new home”. The Madge Wilson Room ( named after a very dear supporter who encouraged us enthusiastically and left us a legacy towards the work) has a lovely atmosphere, a welcoming space where the light floods in through french windows and roof lights.

After so many years of being cramped, first in a caravan, and then a smallish office, the Art and Craft project can at last expand. We still have a large store of fabric and wool which was donated over the years, sewing machines and knitting needles too, but it has been very exciting to be able to buy new supplies of paper, drawing and painting equipment. We have storage shelves along the upstairs corridors which are already nearly full.
We have been able to equip the art and craft project as we have never been able to do before, thanks to Trusts who have responded to our PR Team’s efforts and letters, but also to gifts that we have received from supporters.
We have had some fun sessions, ice breakers, for people who have little confidence. It's feels quite sad when we hear people say “ I can’t draw”. Little children have no such inhibitions, they just get on and enjoy the process. This new room will, we hope provide a place where everyone can feel safe enough to “ Have a go”, and really begin to enjoy all sorts of media, learn new skills, explore and discover gifts that have lain dormant for most of their lives.
As surely as we have been created by a wonderful God, and as surely as we are made in his image, we are convinced that everyone can experience the joy of discovering within themselves, creative expressions that we have all received. Through this, we long that people might discover not only their gifts but the Giver Himself in all His beauty.
