There have been many developments over the last year with the students gaining in confidence both in their own personal development and participation in performance. A varied programme including physical movement, speech and breathing exercises form the basis of detailed and integrated appreciation of drama, prose and poetry. Drama sketches, games, improvisation and mime all play an important part in the classes, which can address a variety of psychological and behavioural issues amongst our students. Some classes are held in groups of eight, four, two and some students receive individual tutoring.
Throughout the year the students have worked on individual and group pieces. All of the students have developed their ability to learn sections of prose, poetry and sketches by heart and this has given rise to great satisfaction and justifiable pride.
Poems and plays, classical and modern are used for study and recitation with students developing a sense of rhythm, metre and expression. Speech improvement is also part of the course. A combination of music, song and dance, also provide a much-appreciated outlet for energy and fun while assisting with general co-ordination. Recently the group has been studying the art of puppetry and has presented a nativity performance at our Christmas Craft Sales Day, this year, from the perspective of the animals.
Within the drama project our students are encouraged to expand their general knowledge and appreciation of drama, literature, art, music, dance and film while developing their individual and unique strengths, preferences and potential.
