A Great Day Out For CMP!
By Martyn
On Tuesday the 13th of October, David, Michael, Wilf and Gary, along with myself, had the privilege of being invited to a free promotion of the software, Final Cut Pro, held at the Concorde Conference Centre at Manchester Airport.
As a result of being on the C.M.P. (Computing and Media Project) Team, we were invited along with members of media and education, as Apple premiered the latest version of this new programme.
Final Cut Pro is the software we use to make many of the DVDs and film production media that many of you will have seen, so we wanted to see what the latest editing suite could offer.
Whilst going to see a conference about new software sounds very dull and boring, the value of going seemed to be based more on the location rather than actually going to see what the software could do!
After a late start and a very nervous Michael promising to try his hardest not to worry, we set off, not knowing what we were getting ourselves into…
Upon arrival, all the men were delighted to see that the location was right next to Manchester’s busy runway! We were able to have a front row seat of planes taking off and landing every one and a half minutes… a “must see” for us plane spotters in our crew!
After we watched a couple planes take off, we made our way into the Concorde Centre. We all got our own “VIP Boarding Passes” along with an information pack and made our way into the centre. Inside, we were blown away by the spectacle of sitting underneath a Concorde jet!
As we got settled into things, we were able to walk round and look at the amazing Concorde. We looked around and took photos, whilst waiting for the conference to start. What an amazing location!
After quite a bit of nice food and a lot of coffee, we proceeded to learn about what the new software did and it was helpful to give us all ideas as to how we can use it for films that our supporters will be seeing in the future. Please look out for new films very soon!
Sparing you the boring details, we had a few more sessions until the day was finally over, but not before being allowed to go onto the mighty Concorde for a grand tour!
This was the most exciting part for all of us!
As we boarded the plane, we were told to take a seat inside, and heard lots of amazing facts about Concorde and all the records it had achieved.
Clearly, the more interesting facts were those of the passengers who flew on the plane. This included Her Majesty The Queen, Michael Jackson and Pavarotti; (who incidentally took up two seats, where David and Wilf were seated.) This caused a lot of excitement for the men and we had a few laughs at David’s expense!
At the end of the day and as we were going to our car, we were so thankful to have had such a great day out together.
Not only this, but to have been able to be a part of something very special in such a relaxed way was very beneficial to the men on the C.M.P. team.
It was great that we were able to learn new things and have new experiences that we could tell lots of people about.
In the prayer meeting, before we left, many prayed that we’d be kept safe.
How amazing it was then, that not only were we kept safe, but the Lord also gave us a day together where were able to have fun and fellowship. The whole day provided far more memories than we could have asked or imagined!
Here’s what the CMP Team thought of their day out:
“I enjoyed the trip to Manchester airport. We saw how they make and edit films on the new version of Final Cut.” – David
“I had a great day. We were given great food and coffee, but the best bit was going onboard Concord!” – Gary
“Fantastic! A real big eye opener! We had a great time together.” – Wilf
“It was a really great day. The presentations were really interesting. It was fun to watch the planes take off.” – Michael
