All Change by Debbie
There are lots of changes afoot in the Horticultural Project; Jake is no longer a TFJ but a member of staff, and we have been re thinking different areas of the gardens which need improving and hoping to take some more people onto that project.. The potting shed is finished and has been equipped with benches and lockers. It looks very smart and is a wonderful facility, which will be a comfortable place to change into work clothes, and to work in during the cold season. The lockers are divided with room for clean clothes and protective clothing, plus space for shoes and boots, and each person has their own key! At the top end of the sensory gardens, the view has totally changed. The guinea pig house has gone and the ground around it has been levelled ready for the new building. It is amazing to see how different it looks, and exciting to think about landscaping the new areas once all the buildings are in place. Jake has already begun to tackle some of the walls in the gardens lower down, and it is interesting to see how the plants change and mature over the years Although the rain has damaged some of the paths, the grass we reseeded has grown very lush. The shady sensory gardens are a favourite place to weed when the sun is too hot. The tunnels look very different in summer. The veg tunnel keeps us well supplied with all sorts of salad greens, cucumbers, courgettes, radishes, spring onions, sweet corn and peppers, to name but a few. Kilos of tomatoes have come from the tunnel that was earlier full of bedding plants, and the propagation house is empty but for a few glorious pelargoniums. We plan to refloor the green net tunnel this winter, where the shrubs and perennials are kept and we have to make some decisions about future stock we want to propagate and grow. The guinea pigs have been re housed into one of the hen houses at the back of the stables. They dont have the option of free ranging, like the hens, but they are now settled in and enjoying all the grass and weeds we pick for them. The cavy show on Open Day was a great success and very well supported. The farm is looking lovely, with lots of plants flowering, and butterflies everywhere. The Lord has blessed us with a wonderful place to work in His service. Many of our folk find times of change a real struggle, and we do pray that through the coming months, more of them will come to know their Saviour, whose love for them is eternal and constant. Debbie
