"Relaying the News” is our biggest fundraising challenge yet and here is how it works!

We have set off a baton from John O’Groats (seen on the picture) and our plan is for it to travel all the way down to Lands End, within a year, being passed via churches right down the country. If you or your church were to receive the baton, it would then be your challenge to get it down the country and towards Lands End by another 10 miles. You could pass it to a church you are in contact with or a friend you know who goes to a different church and you then make it their responsibility to pass it on.

You may be thinking there’s no chance that baton can travel more than a thousand miles just being passed from person to person and church-to-church so we have intervened slightly with the route! We have been in contact with people from over 60 different churches, from top to bottom! They have agreed to be our contact for their church, so that we can track the baton. Inside the baton is a sign up sheet, on which each church enters their contact details, so that we can see exactly where it’s been and can also contact each church once the event is completed. There is also a blue Target List. This is a list of the set contacts down the country, so people who have the baton can check where it needs to go next and direct it to that area or get it straight to the next church on the list if they are able.

The raising funds bit comes in with us asking for a modest donation of £10 from each church it passes through. If the baton passes through the target number of 200 churches, then it will have raised £2,000! It’s amazing what can be achieved if everyone gives a little.

You will literally be relaying the good news as you pass this on. Our hope is that we come into contact with many more churches through Scotland and England and are able to share with them the ministry of Caring For Life. As we hope to raise our target amount of £2,000, our greater hope is to raise awareness of the invaluable work that takes place in Leeds each day, as we share the love of Jesus with hurting and vulnerable people.
