Summer Challenges!
by Peter Parkinson Summer is always a busy time at Caring For Life. There is the preparation for our Open Day, always very special, and this year made especially difficult because the builders were here and very busy, right up to the Friday evening prior to Open Day on the Saturday. Preparing the new Centre was made impossible, so our visitors had to see a very inadequately prepared new centre with just a glimpse of what could and will be. Nevertheless we were thrilled by the reaction of all who came and saw this new facility. Launched on Open Day was our new Coffee / Tea room, called 'The Granary!' It would be impossible to overestimate just how much work Esther has put into the inspiring, planning and launching of this exciting project. Along with Pat, one of our Trustees, and a band of helpers, some amazing herb jellies and preserves have been produced and a wonderful menu has been demised, which visitors seem to be loving.. Freshly baked bread, home made soups, even home grown produce and herbs, all contribute to make this a huge hit in the community. The fact that some of our products are uniquely ours and cannot be purchased anywhere else is rather special. A visit will suffice to reveal what a special place the Granary is! Open from 10.00 am - 4.00pm, Monday to Saturday, a warm welcome awaits every visitor. Our Sensory Gardens and Conservation area are now accessed through a lovely archway, which can be seen by the side of the Granary. Here a new pathway leads all the way down to the conservation area and also enables access to the new People and Animals Meeting building, where in winter time and at lambing time cattle and sheep may be viewed. Already we have been busy making silage, and the first cuts are in. From now on, every farmer will be looking to the sky and hoping for a few days of sun without rain for silage and then hay to be made. The old addage, make hay while the sun shines is an ever present reality to every farmer - but how to know when the sun will shine and the rain stay away? Well that's the challenge of every British summer time. As we see all the summer flowers coming out and the hedges bursting with wonderful blossoms and some amazing fragrances, as we hear the tree sparrow fledglings calling out from their nest boxes, as we see our lambs growing and even our first calf running around its mother in the field, then as we see a host of butterflies in the gardens and hedgerows, we realise that this wonderful world bursting with life and wonder, speaks and testifies of the amazing creator who has revealed himself to us in every part of this wonderful world, but who has most perfectly revealed his love to us in his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Well, as we look at the vibrant creation at this time of the year, there seem to be even more things than usual to talk about with the people in our care. It seems as though all creation is singing the praises of the One who made it, as though everything is pointing heavenward and is testifying to the wonder and beauty of the God who made all things. |
