An opportunity for Christian young people to experience
Christian ministry and to prepare for their future

The Time For Jesus project provides Christian young people with a real taste of full-time Christian work, training to care for particularly damaged young people and the opportunity to take time to consider the Lord’s will for their future. In so doing, “TFJs” supplement a very busy staff team at Caring For Life with invaluable assistance.

Not all who undertake a TFJ year are considering full-time Christian work in the future, but a number have become involved in such ministries. Several are now permanent staff members at CFL, and all have found the year invaluable preparation for working with people and for experiencing practical Christian work.

What is involved?
A TFJ becomes part of the staff team at Caring For Life and helps to keep the cogs in the wheel turning. TFJs are involved in activities each weekday from 8.30am to 5pm and in evening duties at the residential homes if appropriate. Weekend duties are also required on a rota basis with time off given in lieu.

Daily activities might include preparing meals for the Caring For Life family at lunchtime, assisting on the various day care and work experience projects, and assisting with resettlement and residential work.

Practical arrangements
Accommodation will be arranged with each TFJ, and costs will be covered by the Trust or, where appropriate, a Housing Benefit claim. TFJs receive £40 a week. Living expenses and household bills are covered by CFL.

Application process
Prospective TFJs should complete an application form supplying two references, including the pastor of the church they attend and a Christian friend who has known them for at least two years, together with current employer if applicable. CFL will then interview candidates.

Experience & qualifications required
The most important qualification is that the applicant is a committed Christian who desires to live out his or her faith in a practical and Christ-like way by helping those in need.

Relevant qualifications are not required, though certain experience and qualifications can be of use in specific areas of CFL’s work. Experience in some form of Christian service may be extremely useful, though not essential.

TFJs must be at least 18 years of age. Those younger than 21 will not be placed in pastoral roles, but are able to fulfill a valuable role in office-based and other duties.
