Catering Academy

MORE THAN MEALS

If you have not learned cookery skills in a caring home environment, nor enjoyed “family” meals, one’s own diet may be restricted to take-away food, low cost ready meals or snacks, often leading to significant health problems. The Catering Academy helps people to understand nutrition, as well as safety and hygiene in the kitchen, and how to cook simple, healthy meals.

COOKING FOR FRIENDS

Every weekday, those attending the daytime activity projects enjoy a lunch in the Centre, along with project staff and volunteers. That involves a lot of meals! Those on the Catering Academy take pride in helping to serve meals to all their friends, making drinks, sometimes helping to make a birthday cake, and helping with the inevitable washing up!

LASTING LIFE SKILLS

Everyone on Catering Academy undertakes an induction, which covers basic food safety, personal hygiene in the kitchen and food safety. These are vital life skills, which, combined with a better understanding of healthy eating and basic cookery, makes this a potentially life-saving project.
