PLANTS AND PEOPLE

Housed in beautiful glasshouses, the production side of Caring For Life’s Horticulture Project brings people and plants together. This may sound somewhat strange, but the therapeutic value of horticulture is increasingly recognised.

A WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT

The glasshouse production area is separate from the public retail area, and is always warm, in all weathers. The environment is safe and accessible to everyone. Above all, a genuine welcome always awaits everyone who comes along to the project, with opportunities for quiet chats, as well as lively conversation.

ROUTINES AND RESPONSIBILITY

Caring for plants, from seeds to plug plants to larger plants all involves a lot of routine work. This can be tremendously helpful for people who have lived a chaotic lifestyle, or never known any security. Knowing that plants need watering, feeding and checking over helps people to develop a sense of responsibility.

A SENSE OF PRIDE

Everyone on the project gains an enormous sense of pride when plants they have nurtured go on sale in the Nurseries retail area and fly off the shelves! Or when they are able to pick kilos of strawberries, courgettes, cucumbers and salad crops for the Granary Restaurant on site.
